I have attempted to present an astrological interpretation of the origins, character, and historical trajectory of the United States, arguing that its founding in 1607 at Jamestown coincided with a uniquely powerful alignment of astrological forces. From the perspective of the Age of Aquarius, the USA emerged at a moment when multiple overlapping “backbones” and “overflow” periods of key zodiac signs—especially Pisces, Capricorn, and Aquarius—were simultaneously at peak strength – like pulling three aces on a poker machine. This convergence is akin to an “immaculate conception,” suggesting the nation was founded under unusually potent and reinforcing cosmic conditions suitable for an “age-empire”.

Although the Age of Aquarius began in 1433, the lingering influence of the Pisces age remains dominant due to the nature of astrological “overflow,” where the energy of a sign persists and even intensifies after its formal period ends. As a result, the USA is primarily Piscean in character—shaped by themes such as ideology, illusion, religion, and duality—while also strongly influenced by Capricorn (institutions, power, conservatism) and, to a lesser extent, Aquarius (innovation, disruption and democracy). Libra and Taurus play smaller supporting roles.

These signs do not operate in isolation but in repeating cycles. Periods when Pisces, Aquarius, and Capricorn align, which was the case with the conception of the USA, also reappeared during the American Revolution in the 18th century and the rise of the USA as a global superpower from the late 19th to mid-20th century.  These key periods correspond to major phases of national transformation and success. The recurrence of this ‘birth’ alignment between 2059 and 2103 should mark another decisive phase, though likely more turbulent due to broader age-cycle transitions.

The USA is the age-empire of the current Pisces–Aquarius age (commonly known as the Age of Aquarius), similar to how Ancient Rome reflected the primarily Aries values of its own age. Ancient Egypt reflected the values of the Taurus age. 

As an age-empire, this does not imply moral superiority by the USA, but rather structural power. I use the dual Piscean symbol of “two fish swimming in opposite directions” to explain the country’s internal contradictions, particularly in politics and foreign policy. This duality manifests as a tension between stated ideals—such as democracy and freedom—and actual behavior, including interventionism and support for regime change, usually involving overthrowing democracies.

Pisces is highly noticeable in the USA due to the recurring “Piscean blunders” in American history, including military overreach (Vietnam. Afghanistan, etc.), ideological misjudgments (Prohibition, the War on Drugs), and failures to grasp complex realities (such as the Middle East). Wars such as Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, along with covert interventions and economic crises, illustrate a pattern of overconfidence, (Pisces) belief-driven decision-making, and insufficient attention to practical detail (which is associated with Virgo, the opposing sign to Pisces and therefore lacking in the USA). With the health sign Virgo in detriment, is there a better reason for the USA having one of the worst healthcare systems in the Western world?

At the same time, the USA has made major contributions to global progress, particularly in technology, governance, and economic development. Like all “age-empires,” the USA is a mixture of positive and negative forces that cannot be separated. The United States reflects both the strengths and flaws of the parameters associated with the current astrological age, and that its future—including a likely period of crisis and subsequent reformation around the next major astrological transition commencing later this century.
