What makes Japan so important? After World War II, Japan's development was spectacular! They put all of their resources into people, into developing and using new technology. They were forbidden to build weapons of destruction. (Lucky for them). After a while, they were begging the U.S. to reduce its deficit, which President Reagan refused to do. Our interests rates were so high that we were magnetically attracting moneys from everywhere. Later global competition was so fierce that corporations began downsizing. People lost their jobs. They were insecure. They still are! With corruption rampant in every country, special interests dominate the political process in every country.
Japan invested much of its capital in U.S. Treasury bonds, in U.S. real estate, and in corporations. Much of its investment is in South East Asia, Malasia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines. The economies of these countries are in trouble. In the recent past the Japanese banks have had bad loans outstanding to the tune of about 800 billion dollars. The Japanese Government has prevented the bank failures on many occasions by an infusion of PENSION FUNDS.
The chart I use for Japan is the date of the official restoration of Japanese independence when peace was declared: April 28, 1952 at 10:30 PM zone -9, Tokyo, Japan, 35N40, 139E46. The Midheaven is 20:17 Libra. The Ascendant is 0:31 Capricorn.
In the December 1988 issue of Share International magazine, a forecast was made by a Swami close to the Head of the Spiritual Hierarchy of Masters for our planet, the Lord Maitreya, that the new stock market crash would begin with Japan and that afterwards, there would be a reordering of priorities. The world stock market is a bubble about to burst.
Timing is the expertise of astrologers. So when is this cataclysmic event due to occur? First we will examine the natal chart of Japan with its progressed aspects. Progressed Jupiter quincunxes natal Saturn at 9:39 Libra, while transiting Jupiter at 9-10 Pisces will activate this aspect in March, 1998. The progressed ascendant at 18:45 Aquarius opposes natal Pluto at 19:06 Leo in the 8th house of change and transformation. The 8th house rules pension funds, interest rates, bankruptcies and taxes. Progressed Saturn at 8:12 Libra EXACTLY quincunxes natal Sun at 8:12 Taurus. Saturn rules the Ascendant while the Sun rules the 8th house. The transiting Sun can activate this aspect towards the end of March. Progressed Uranus at 12:51 Cancer quincunxes natal Antivertex at 11:51 Aquarius in the 2nd house. Transiting Uranus at 11 Aquarius could activate this aspect any time in March and even in the beginning of April. Progressed Uranus squares natal Mercury at 12:13 Aries. Transiting Uranus will also activate this square. Uranus rules the 2nd house of finance, investments, stocks, bonds, currency, etc.
Transiting Saturn around March 19-20, 1998 will be EXACTLY on the IC (20 Aries). Transiting Mars will be in Aries in the month of March. Around the middle of the month it will oppose natal and progressed Saturn, then it will quincunx natal Mars and conjunct natal Mercury on or about March 19-20. My first impression was that the crash would occur around the end of March, 1998. Since Saturn rules the ascendant, I thought the timing should relate to a Saturn aspect. Transiting Saturn on the IC or a degree applying to the IC is always ominous. During the same time period transiting Jupiter in Pisces will be activating the Jupiter-Saturn quincunx. Transiting Mars will be at 11 Aries on or about Friday, March 20. Transiting Mars will be at 14 Aries on or about Monday March 23rd, 1998. Saturn in the U.S. chart is at 14 LIBRA and transiting Mars will be opposing that degree.
The lunar eclipse of September 16, 1997 was at 23:53 Pisces. This eclipse will cause the rumble of the forthcoming economic earthquake which will occur sometime in March, 1998. There could be a series of crashes during the week following Sunday, March 15th and especially starting on Monday, March 23, 1998 when Mars will be at 14 ARIES. The ascendant for the 1997 Winter Ingress chart for Japan is 22:54 Virgo. The lunar eclipse is right on the descendant of this chart. An Ingress chart is determined by the day, hour and minute a planet enters a new sign. The most important Ingress chart is when the Sun enters the sign of Aries in the Spring.
The 1998 Spring Ingress chart for Japan signals a wakeup call. The ascendant is 9:11 Pisces. The solar eclipse of September 2, 1997 was at 9:34 Virgo. The solar eclipse of February 26, 1998 is at 7:55 Pisces! Not only that but the South Node is at 9:33 Pisces; Jupiter is at 10:37 Pisces, the East point is at 15:30 Pisces. The Sun, Mars, Mercury and Saturn are all in Aries and ALL ARE IN THE 1ST HOUSE. So where do you think Pluto is? It is at 8:02 Sagittarius SQUARING the Pisces ascendant and squaring the solar eclipse degree of 7:55 Pisces. Pluto is definitely the planet to create psychological turmoil which precedes transformation and change. The 1st house in Mundane astrology represents the general conditions of the public's attitude and their reactions.
This will be a year of great anxiety for the Japanese Government. There will be losses and discontent. Its stock market crash will trigger a market crash mostly in the U.S. There will be much uncertainty. Japan will probably sell its U.S. Treasury bonds to shore up its market. Interest rates might rise and real estate values will probably drop. The depression will definitely NOT be similar to the one in 1929. We have learned much since that time. A 1% tax on foreign currency exchange would help the world immensely if it was used on what was needed in each country. This was suggested some time ago, but no action was taken on it. The Hindu astrological chart for Japan also depicts sinister events especially commencing in March, 1998. In that chart transiting Saturn lands a knockout blow to the Ascendant, Venus, Mercury, and to natal Saturn which is on a so-called "fatal degree". Transiting Jupiter has been protecting Saturn, but as transiting Jupiter moves into Pisces starting some time in January 1998, which is sidereal Aquarius, it removes its protection. The Saturn-Moon dasha starts Nov. 14, 1997. A dasha is a planetary period used for predictions in Vedic astrology. The Moon is the ruler of the 8th house. It is also the dreaded 22nd Drekkana, which makes it a malefic. It aspects the ascendant and is aspected by a malefic Saturn. The lunar eclipse in March gives the timing of the event, as well as transiting Saturn, Mars, Venus, Mercury, Uranus and the Moon. The New York Stock Market Chart from 1982 to 1998 has been under a Jupiter dasa. Starting in August, 1998 it will be under a Saturn dasa until 2017. Jupiter in Vedic astrology represents growth, expansion, optimism, while Saturn represents depression, sorrow, suffering, restriction, lessons to be learned, karma-time.
The data for the Japanese Stock Market Chart is May 16, 1949 9 AM (-9) Tokyo. In this chart progressed Saturn squares natal Venus and quincunxes natal Jupiter at 2 Aquarius. Progressed Venus at 2:16 Leo opposes natal Jupiter. Transiting Venus at about 2 Aquarius around March 6, 1998 could possibly trigger a crash, but I think not. The Midheaven for this chart is 14:17 ARIES. Transiting Mars will be at 14 Aries on or about Sunday, March 22nd, 1998. I believe that transiting Saturn in Aries will give the timing for the stock market crash, March 19-24, 1998 at the same time that transiting Mars is 12-14 degrees in Aries. At the end of the month, & the beginning of April, transiting Mars conjuncts transiting Saturn. That also is ominous. The stock market crash must occur before April16th, 1998 before transiting Saturn enters sidereal Aries and tropical Taurus. In this chart the Solar Eclipse at 7:55 Pisces on February 26, 1998 will activate a yod, a finger of God aspect, involving the progressed Sun at 11:32 Cancer sextile natal Mars at 11:50 Taurus inconjunct the natal Vertex at 10:29 Sagittarius. Transiting Mars will activate this aspect. In the NY Stock Market Chart (May 17, 1792 9:10 AM LMT, NYC) we have a finger of God aspect, a yod with progressed Jupiter at 19:41 Scorpio sextiling natal Mars at 18:45 Virgo and both inconjunct the natal Moon at 19:20 Aries. The progressed Moon at 18:54 Libra is exactly opposite the natal Moon, poised for action. Progressed Venus at 19:29 Capricorn also squares the natal Moon. Transiting Saturn on that poor, besieged natal Moon at about 20 Aries will give the timing for the stock market crash. Transiting Mars will aspect the natal Midheaven at 14:37 ARIES around MARCH 19-24, 1998 and it will aspect the natal Moon around March 30th, suggesting a series of crashes. The progressed Sun at 18:09 Sagittarius also squares natal Mars at 18:44 Virgo. In the month of April and May transiting Saturn will be making a Saturn return to natal Saturn at 26:22 Aries. What can we expect from a major stock market crash? Politicians are the lackeys of the multi-national corporations. We have created influential mega-millionaires who are fueled by greed. Bankers are now complaining that there must be a new way that money is handled. But must Big Business have so much political power? Must we have fierce competition which breeds, self-interest and selfishness? Peace must be based on economic, social and political JUSTICE. Only as humanity realizes that it is one body, one cell in a greater body can there be a true understanding of the immediate divine plan for our earth. The answer is that there must be a SHARING of technology, of resources, responsibility and a protection of our environment. Our first concern is that poverty must be eliminated world-wide. Just as all the cells in our body must be fed or else the whole body suffers, so is it thus on a larger scale. We are part of the one humanity.
It is said that in the future there will be a global computer bank. Each country will enter its surplus products into the computer. Plans have already been drawn for the time when political will is exercised to bring into operation the reordering of priorities. The stock market crash may injure many and may usher in more despair for a while as the poor become poorer, but only through suffering will the demand for a reordering of priorities make a dent in the political process of each country.
