According to the esoteric teachings in the Alice A. Bailey books, before one is born, the soul decides the lessons to be learned. It chooses the parents according to past karmic ties and the services to be rendered. Al Gore and George W. Bush were destined to achieve prominence and power. Each was born into a family where his father was a prominent political figure. Al Gore's father was a Congressman from Tennessee. The father of George W. Bush was the former President, George H. Bush. So, the question is: Who is going to be our next President in the year 2001?

Al Gore was born on March 31, 1948 at 12:53 PM EST in Washington DC. .

George W. Bush, Jr. was born on July 6, 1946 at 7:26 AM EDT in New Haven, Connecticut.

The times of birth for each, are from the birth certificates.

Both men have superb leadership ability with Leo Ascendants and planets in Leo in the 1st house. This royal sign endows its natives with self-confidence, courage, magnanimity, generosity, pride and the need to be admired and praised. For power, with a capital "P", both appropriately have Pluto in the 1st house conjunct the Ascendant. That gives Pluto extra strength and prominence. Saturn also conjoins the Ascendant. For George W. Bush (GWB) it is from the 12th house and for Al Gore it is in the 1st house. Saturn delivers status, achievement and success.

Both men have the Moon conjunct Jupiter. This confers benevolence, altruism, good fortune. It also suggests that their mothers were highly educated and/or religious or spiritual. In a past life they might have been teachers, judges, very fortunate, wealthy, or spiritual/religious. Both men have Sun square Moon. Their personalities are out of sync with their feelings. There are challenges connected to confidence, courage, home life, children and family.

For charisma, GWB wins, hands down. His stellium in the social sign of Venus-ruled Libra blends well with the affectionate, outgoing, fiery Leo. Libra confers the desire for harmony, goodwill, compromise, consensus, diplomacy and refinement. GWB appreciates beauty, art, wealth and the things money can buy. He is amiable and friendly. He is willing to please and he values being liked. Al Gore's Sun ruler, Mars is closely conjunct heavy Saturn and intense Pluto in the 1st house. He comes across as somber, reserved, thoughtful, and sedate. He may be very qualified as a lawmaker, but to the public, he does not smile enough. There is no charisma in his demeanor nor is his wit engaging.

Al Gore's Sun is in Aries, the sign of pioneering leadership, of decisive action and enormous willpower. It TRINES his stellium of Pluto, Saturn and Mars in Leo. There is an intimation that he is ordained to achieve power and success in his career. GWB's Sun is in Cancer, a cardinal sign of action, of nurturance and of patriotism. He is very family oriented, loving and caring. His Sun SQUARES his Libra stellium of Neptune, Chiron, Moon, Juno and Jupiter. His present life has challenges that are connected to his higher values and belief systems. Both men are capable of protecting the weak and the indigent. They are service oriented. GWB has his Cancer Sun in the 12th house of service and Al Gore has his Sun opposite Neptune, the planet of compassion, inspiration and service.

Both men have more planets below than above the horizon. They are more subjective and less outgoing. Both have more planets on the Eastern half of the chart. They tend to be more in charge of their lives.

Both men have Uranus in Gemini in the 11th house conjunct the anti-vertex. The anti-vertex is like a minor Ascendant. Over and beyond the public's brain-washing by the media they have the opportunity to generate progressive, new-age concepts and create essential organizations that can equitably serve the environmental, economic and social needs of all people.

GWB tends to be more materialistic, grasping and security-oriented. His Mars in the 2nd house suggests that he is identified with money and pleasure. GWB's Jupiter square the Sun suggests that his goals are to live the "good life". This is a challenge to his ethics and morals. There is or was a tendency toward prodigality, extravagance and hypocritical behavior. In fact, he was known to be a playboy who overindulged in alcoholic beverages until he was almost 40. As we mature, we mellow into greater wisdom. He could very well become one of the most popular presidents of our time.

GWB started his own oil company in 1975 but although the business failed, he did very well financially. It pays to have a father who is Vice-President with connections to millionaires. After the war with Iraq ended, GWB finally registered the sale of his stock as INSIDER TRADING, but he was never cited or punished. Again, it pays to have influential/powerful connections. He bought an interest in the Texas Rangers with borrowed money. Private owners of land next to the stadium did not want to sell so a new government agency condemned the land for the owners of the Texas Rangers. The taxpayers had to finance the purchase of the bonds that were floated to pay for the land. More recently the franchise was sold at a great profit to GWB and his partners. With his Sun in the 12th house the great lesson for him in this life is to express unconditional love, and to become more in touch with his Inner Self. The personality is to become subservient to the soul.

GWB has what in Vedic astrology is called a Kala Sarpa Yoga. All of his planets are hemmed in by the Nodes of the Moon. Past karmic forces restrict the energies of the planets so that they are not as effective as they could be. There is an unconscious frustration that may eventually lead to an understanding of his life purpose and to spiritual endeavors.

Al Gore has challenges connected to 7th house, partnership concerns. Uranus the ruler of his 7th house receives a square from Mercury and an opposition from Jupiter. His Venus receives a quincunx from Jupiter and a square from Mars. He is known to have had problems with his spouse. He met his wife at a school dance when he attended St. Alban's Episcopal School for Boys. He has three daughters and a son. His first daughter was born when he was 25 in 1973, his son, the youngest child, was born in 1982. By the time Al Gore was 28 he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Eight years later when he was 36, he was elected to the Senate. While a Senator he wrote a 432 page book: "Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit". GWB has Mercury and Pluto conjunct the Ascendant. They are on critical degrees. They exert additional energy for learning, lecturing, writing, mental willpower, self-confidence and control. Saturn and the Sun also are on critical degrees. Saturn bestows an unconscious ideal for achievement and status in career. The ultimate goal for the Sun in the 12th is expressed through compassionate service to all or if expressed negatively, through self-undoing, alcohol, dissolute behavior, etc. Venus also is on a critical degree. In the chart of Al Gore, on November 7, 2000, the progressed Midheaven is at 13:03 Gemini sextile natal Pluto at 12:41 Leo. Transiting Pluto is at 11:43 Sagittarius activating this fortuitous aspect. The solar eclipse on July 31, 2000 at 8:11 Leo also activates the sextile. What is the significance of this aspect? Since the Midheaven represents his career and Pluto represents power, it means that the opportunity is right for presidential power for Al Gore.

The solar eclipse on July 1, 2000 at 10:15 Cancer is on Al Gore's progressed Venus at 9:04 Cancer. In 1992 a solar eclipse at 8:56 Cancer was also on his progressed Venus at 5+ Cancer. In November 2004, his progressed Venus at 10:18 Cancer will square his natal Sun at 10:55 Aries, however his progressed Midheaven will sextile natal Saturn. These contradictory aspects pose a dilemma for astrologers attempting to fathom future events.
For confirmation of a forecast, we study the chart of Al Gore's wife, Tipper Gore. She was born on August 19, 1948 at 2:40 AM EDT in Washington D.C. Her secondary progressions, transits and the eclipses are even more impressive for the several election years! The solar eclipse of July 1, 2000 at 10:15 Cancer is on her Ascendant at 9:45 Cancer. It automatically effects her Descendant (spouse). It activates her progressed Midheaven at 10:34 Taurus sextile natal Venus at 11:18 Cancer. This intimates a fortunate opportunity for the career of her spouse. Her progressed Ascendant at 18:27 Leo TRINES natal Jupiter at 19:07 Sagittarius. Hey, what can be better than a Jupiter-good-fortune trine? The solar eclipse on February 5, 2000 at 16 Aquarius will activate this trine. However, at the same time, her progressed Mars at 25:12 Scorpio SQUARES her natal Saturn and Sun at 26:10 Leo. In great events, there is always some emotional stress, to cause anxiety and turmoil (especially for the astrologer struggling to make a forecast).

I view the effects of a solar eclipse as portending events almost eighteen months prior to an event. On August 11, 1999 the potent grand cross solar eclipse at 18:21 Leo squares transiting Mars at 16:35 Scorpio, transiting Saturn at 16:51 Taurus and opposes transiting Uranus at 14:40 Aquarius. This eclipse falls exactly on Al Gore's natal Mars at 18:08 Leo. Since Mars is the ruler of his Aries Midheaven, it implies that his 10th house, executive abilities, will be activated. This eclipse also falls on his progressed Saturn at 16:54 Leo. It rules the 6th house of work/service and is the natural ruler of the 10th house of career. Progressed Saturn exactly quincunxes natal Mercury at 16:54 Pisces. Mercury rules the 3rd house of communication, and is co-ruler of the 2nd house of income. It also rules the 11th house of organizations. Al Gore might have difficulties connected to the media (3rd house), to finance (2nd house) and/or to friends and organizations (11th house). Transiting Saturn in Taurus will probably activate this quincunx in 1999 and 2000. There are other aspects and transits that I could mention, but these are the most significant.

In the chart of GWB the solar eclipse on July 31, 2000 at 8:11 Leo is on his natal Mercury at 9:50 Leo and on natal Pluto at 10:35 Leo, but these planets are not activated by a secondary progression. It just means that his desire for power is augmented and he receives a lot of publicity. This solar eclipse on his Ascendant at 7:07 Leo, however, is activating a sextile from progressed Neptune! This elicits euphoria and high aspirations from his backers and also for himself. Neptune is co-ruler of his 8th house. He receives financial assistance from other people (his millionaire backers/friends). Progressed Mercury (media) conjuncts favorable natal Venus. The media is overwhelmingly supportive of his chances for election. The progressed Equatorial Ascendant sextiles natal Sun. He also, is exceedingly confident. The progressed Midheaven TRINES his natal Moon, Chiron and Juno. It appears as if he is making a "home run" for the presidency! Wait a minute! What about Mars, the ruler of the Midheaven? What is it doing? For a career, we should always consider the aspects of the ruler of the Midheaven. Progressed Mars at 12:54 Libra SQUARES his natal Sun (ego expression) at 13:47 Cancer. This may be the fly in the ointment that could cause the political mixture to become rancid. Transiting Saturn squares his natal Venus at 21:30 Leo. Transiting Saturn conjoins Al Gore's natal Venus at 26:01 Taurus.

Take heart all of you who would like to see GWB win the election. He loses on November 7, 2000, but on November 3, 2004, he has an excellent chance of becoming the President of the United States of America. This time his progressed Sun CONJUNCTS natal Mars, the ruler of his MC; progressed Ascendant semi-sextiles natal Venus and the progressed MC conjoins the natal North Node. The solar eclipse on October 14, 2004 at 21:06 Libra activates progressed Chiron sextile natal Venus. While progressed Jupiter and Venus SQUARE natal Saturn, this could represent the emotional stress and turbulence when high stakes are involved. His ideals (Jupiter) may have to be put on the political back burner. They usually are in politics.

It is Tipper Gore's chart that delivers the verdict of the outcome of the election. In November 2004, her progressed MC SQUARES natal Pluto. She is definitely out of power! In addition the solar eclipse at 21:06 Libra is on her progressed Sun at 21:02 Libra conjunct natal Mars at 20:06 Libra. The eclipse on this Sun/Mars aspect indicates that it is a time for CHANGE! The eclipse at 21:06 Libra is right on the IC (residence) of Al Gore. That DECIDEDLY means a change of address for him!
